SAMReN Fellowship for Young Academics and
Scholars of South Asia
South Asia Migration Resource Network (SAMReN) offers
fellowships to young South Asian academics and researchers to
conduct empirical research studies. The aim of this endeavour is to
generate knowledge and understanding about various dimensions of
migration and to increase capacity of young professionals and
academics in advocating for ‘managed migration’ in addressing
poverty in South Asia. Proposals will be accepted on all issues of
migration within South Asia.
Objectives
-
Encourage empirical research on migration in
the social science disciplines;

Increase capacity of young academics and
researchers on migration, globalisation and development issues;
-
Promote development of new thoughts and ideas
on migration, livelihood, poverty and development;
-
Promote gender sensitive migration research;
-
Generate new literature, information and
publication on migration.
Selection Criteria
Nationals of South Asian countries will be given preference, however
those working on South Asian migration are also eligible to apply.
The applicants should have a post-graduate degree in a social
science discipline. This condition may be relaxed in extraordinary
cases (job experiences / publications on migration issues).
The age of the fellows should be below 35 years.
The new research issues were tried to find out at the meeting. The
participants emphasised on the following issues:

River erosion (Bangladesh)
-
Disaster and migration (Bangladesh)
-
Economic reason (rural to urban migration,
monga in Bangladesh)
-
Landslide migration (Nepal)
-
Earthquake (Pakistan)
-
The political economy of migration: ethnic
segmentation in the labour market allows certain group of people
to migrate (T. Memon, Pakistan)
-
Poverty and migration
Please Note:
Joint application will be accepted, although grant will remain
the same
No office space will be provided for this fellowship, applicants
should be aware that they will have to make their own arrangements
Fellows are welcome to work anywhere as long as in-situ supervision
can be arranged
All proposals should have current policy relevance.
Please note that the applicants can develop
his/her proposal on issues related to migration not mentioned above. |
