Christian Commission For The Development Of Bangladesh.

Christian Commission for the Development of Bangladesh (CCDB) has been in operation since 1972. At the initial stages of its work the organisation was mainly involved in relief programmmes in war-devastated Bangladesh. Gradually the organisation increased the range of its development activities with programmes on credit, training, income generation, human resource development, agricultural training, women development, etc. Currently it is one of the larger NGOs of Bangladesh. The organisation is spread out in 122 thanas of 19 districts. From 1997, CCDB has been involved in a programme under the broad umbrella of HIV/AIDS and Mobility Programme. The objective of this programme is to increase HIV awareness among those groups of people in Bangladesh who are at risk of the disease. CCDB is implementing the HIV/AIDS and Mobility programme among the migrant workers, as they constitute one of the major target groups that could be at high risk of HIV AIDs. In order to reach its target group it funded SHISHUK for developing an association of migrant workers. CCDB has been involved in research and advocacy work on HIV and AIDS. Moreover, the organisation has prepared a database of paper clippings on migrant workers of Bangladesh. Besides, CCDB has organised seminars and conferences on migrants’ health related issues. It plans to develop programmes to give pre-departure training to the migrant workers, conduct research on the problems of female migrant workers and organise them and prepare materials for IEC programme (Information, Education, Communication) for migrant workers.
